# IGI airport geographic sources

Retrieved 12 September 2026. This package supports an artistic aerial visualization; building heights, surface appearance and activity require interpretation. It is not an operational airport chart or live traffic record.

## Geographic geometry

- [OpenStreetMap](https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/28.557/77.095), downloaded from [Overpass API](https://overpass-api.de/api/interpreter). Source data timestamp: `2026-09-12T17:11:01Z` (main way query). The full geometry query is saved as `overpass-query.txt`; a supplemental node query fetched `node["aeroway"](28.515,77.055,28.598,77.145);out;` and was merged into `airport-osm.json`.
- Data attribution: **© OpenStreetMap contributors**. Data available under the [Open Database License](https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright). Display the attribution and copyright link in the visualization. If distributing a derived database, preserve applicable ODbL terms.
- Airport feature bounds: 28.515–28.598 N, 77.055–77.145 E. Nearby buildings/roads/landcover were requested in 28.525–28.590 N, 77.060–77.135 E. Overpass returns whole intersecting ways, so individual features may extend beyond these boxes.
- Main airport boundary: relation `19597141`, with geometry under relation members. The source includes a boundary-completeness fixme; do not claim survey accuracy.
- `airport-osm.json`: 16,559 elements including 569 taxiway ways, 49 apron ways, 105 jet-bridge ways, 124 parking-position nodes/ways, 74 gate nodes, 9,868 building-tagged features and 4,950 highway ways. `geometry-summary.json` records detailed counts and runway chains.

## Primary runway checks

[Delhi Airport official fact sheet](https://www.newdelhiairport.in/factsheet/) confirms four physical runways:

[AAI eAIP VIDP, 2026 edition](https://aim-india.aai.aero/eaip/eaip-v2-04-2026/eAIP/IN-AD%202.1VIDP-en-GB.html), AD 2.12 and 2.13, corroborates runway designators and separates physical surfaces, declared distances, stopways and displaced thresholds. True bearings toward the easterly runway designators are 91.25°, 104.25°, 103.65° and 103.25° respectively. The airport fact sheet reports overall physical lengths; declared usable distances can differ. ## Renderer notes

- OSM main runway ways with `ref` do **not** always span the full physical runway. Combine connected `aeroway=runway` segments listed in `geometry-summary.json`; otherwise the southern runways appear too short. Four refs are represented by 13 way segments.
- Main runway IDs: 09/27 `35261611`; 10/28 `626283747`; 11L/29R `901366788`; 11R/29L `181573728`.
- T1: way `1429256812`, named Terminal 1.
- T3 headhouse: `51419058`; southern/domestic pier: `51419062`; northern/international pier: `51419112`. Relation `8632270` groups T3; avoid duplicate meshes if also rendering those way parts.
- T2 complex: unnamed terminal ways `35261858` and `1182645562` at approximately 28.5586 N, 77.0872 E. This identification is geographic inference, not a name tag in this OSM export.
- Old Air Traffic Services building: `103173012`; nearby tower node `8627096664` is tagged `disused=yes`. Current ATC tower footprint is `901269197` (`building=tower`, `service=aircraft_control`), verified against AAI coordinates; see REFERENCES.md.
- Freight terminal buildings: `51419271`, `1552467493`, `1552467494`, `1552467497`.
- Treat unverified height/level metadata cautiously: `level=44` on two freight buildings is not evidence of 44 storeys. Heights, roof architecture and materials are not comprehensively mapped.
- Airport vehicles and aircraft movement should be labeled simulated. The map data does not establish current runway availability, closures, taxi clearances or airline traffic.


## Rendered aerial background

Four attributed Esri World Imagery exports are stored in `assets/` for reliable local preview loading. Their exact service URLs, projected bounds, dimensions and retrieval date are in `assets/imagery-sources.json`. Source credit from the service: Esri, Vantor, Earthstar Geographics, and the GIS User Community. Imagery can predate the newer mapped runway and terminal geometry. The renderer projects these same images onto roof footprints; facade and roof equipment geometry remain illustrative.
